🍅 🍌🍌 . . .
Codenamed GEMPIX2 and now ketchup, the official moniker for Nano Banana 2 is yet to be confirmed. The second act of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image seems to be days, if not weeks, away from release. The first iteration delivered improved fidelity and instruction following of complex prompts, with AI image editing and generation features. Now, with the second installment close to its official launch, we can safely assume that this new model will broaden the creative possibilities with improved editing features and better workflows.
What Do The Rumors Say?
Nano Banana 2 is the successor to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (aka Nano Banana). If the rumors are true, then the new AI image generation model will be based on Google Gemini 3 architecture, which is yet to be unveiled.
Unlike the first model that debuted on LMArena and gained attention, GEMPIX2 or KETCHUP made its first appearance (staged reveals) on Gemini. The codename GEMPIX2 went viral on X (formerly Twitter), which was later changed to ‘KETCHUP.’ So yes, we might have evidence of a potential model, but not a single prediction about its release.
Apart from that, Google released official notes about model deprecation, fueling the new model rumors further. Will Nano Banana 2 or Ketchup use Gemini 2.5? Or will it leverage Gemini 3? We are yet to find answers to these questions.
Expected Features of Nano Banana 2
The preview version of Nano Banana 2 was available on the AI platform Media-ai for a few hours, where many creators tested its capabilities and found significant advancements:
1. Image Generation Quality
Those who tested and posted about Nano Banana 2 results noticed a significant improvement in image resolution. The first iteration became popular for its realism and accurate image editing, but this version is expected to go beyond that. Nano Banana 2 might be able to create images at a much higher resolution, including 2K, 4K… and maybe above that.
The AI image generator will likely be able to refine the textural and surface-level details with lifelike accuracy.
Wild times.

Nano Banana 2 apparently leaked for a few hours today on some platforms, and the limited results by a small handful of users have been pretty insane.
The model was apparently from an uncensored, slightly older checkpoint.

2. Faster Generation
Insiders speculate that GEMPIX or KETCHUP will have faster rendering time and optimized processing power, further broadening the creative and professional applications. Expect quicker turnaround time without any need for manual reworking or upscaling, and assets can be directly used for video generation and for online and print media.
3. Improved AI Image Editing
Gemini 2.5 Flash Image demonstrated incredible character and scene consistency even after extensive editing. When GEMPIX2 or KETCHUP was tested upon accidental (or intentional) release, it presented precise layer control, object manipulation, and textural preservation through text-based prompting.
The Nano Banana 2 is incredible! It successfully maintained the character's full consistency, including her hair and accessories. The prompt was very simple; I just asked to turn her around, and the result is on the right. pic.twitter.com/l6ys2QHGfI

4. Text Understanding
Nano Banana 2 might feature improved natural language understanding prompt interpretation. One of the most viral examples showcases a whiteboard with complex text without any textual or visual inaccuracies or artefacts. This exhibits the model’s increased and well-integrated world knowledge and visual fidelity. If the speculations hold, then Nano Banana 2 will potentially improve workflows, efficiency, and visual quality.
2️⃣ “Generate image following textual requirements and remove instructions”

📚 It read visual instructions on an image (arrows, labels, notes), and produced the correct edited version, removing markup while implementing all the listed changes.

5. Advanced Image Remastering
Expect GEMPIX2 or KETCHUP to create entire scenes with characters and elements, and recolor and recreate a better version of it. The tool will be able to remaster an image into any visual style while maintaining the image's integrity and consistency.

6. Language Understanding
Another highly anticipated feature of Nano Banana 2 is language translation and understanding. The AI image generation model will most likely accurately recognize text within the image, detect the language, and translate it into any language you want.
5️⃣ “Add color to this manga and convert the text to English”
— SRKDAN (@SRKDAN) November 11, 2025
📖 It colorized a monochrome manga panel, translated all Japanese dialogue correctly, and redrew speech bubbles perfectly.
💬 That’s language understanding + visual restoration + layout accuracy, all in one go. pic.twitter.com/GFAlzdPGNz
7. Physics Reasoning
If this rumored feature has any truth to it, then Nano Banana 2 might be the only AI image generator with any understanding of physics. When tested, the model correctly interpreted the behavior of an object when moved, predicting the trajectory and movements — this is like motion dynamics in image generation.
6️⃣ “Draw a line for the ball’s path”
— SRKDAN (@SRKDAN) November 11, 2025
⚪ It reasoned how a ball would move through a maze, then drew the correct curved trajectory.

Rendering with Reason
The release of Nano Banana could be a turning point in AI image generation and editing. It surely will unlock the untapped potential of AI image generation, following instructions with logic and reason.
As we await the full release of Nano Banana 2, it’s clear that this tool will play a central role in the next wave of AI-powered creative tools, shaping the future of visual content generation in 2025 and beyond.
