Associate product manager to PM: the career path at ImagineArt

A product discussion at a desk in the ImagineArt Islamabad office

ImagineArt is eight products in one workspace: Image, Video, Film Studio, Ad Studio, Fashion Studio, Audio Studio, Workflows and MCP. Each has real users on the other side. As an associate product manager (APM), you're handed a piece of one of them, not a slide deck about it.

Who the APM role is for

Final-year students and graduates up to about a year out, from any university, who have built something worth showing. You don't need a computer science degree. You need to have shipped something and be able to explain the choices you made.

What you own in your first year

  • Week 1: you get a surface, a designer and access to the numbers. You ship something small before Friday.
  • Day 30: you've talked to users yourself and changed something because of it.
  • Day 90: you own the roadmap for your surface and defend it in the room.
  • Month 6: a feature you led is live, and you can point to what it moved.
  • Year 1: when your surface feels off, the team looks to you.

The career path from APM to group PM

StageTitleWhat you own
Year 1Associate Product ManagerA surface or feature, end to end: spec, copy, launch and results
Years 2–3Product ManagerA product line with a roadmap, engineers and a designer
Years 3–5Senior Product ManagerA business line with a number attached, and more than one squad
Year 5+Group Product ManagerA whole product area, and the PMs who run its lines

These are typical timelines, not promises. Scope follows impact, so people who ship more move faster.

How product works here

  • The spec is yours. You write it, defend it and ship it. Nobody hands you tickets.
  • You talk to users. Not through a research team.
  • Ship, then learn. Small releases every week, read the numbers, iterate.
  • Design sits next to you. PMs and designers pair from the first sketch.
  • No layers. You work directly with product leadership and the founders.

Frequently asked questions

What does an associate product manager do at ImagineArt?

An APM owns a surface or feature of the product end to end: writing the spec, working with a designer and engineers, launching it, and reading the numbers afterwards. It's a builder role from the first week.

Who can apply for the APM role?

Final-year students and graduates up to about a year out, from any university. You need something you've built or shipped, not a specific degree.

How long does it take to go from APM to product manager?

Usually one to two years. Promotion follows the scope you take on and what you ship, not time served.

Is the APM role remote?

No. It's full-time and on-site in our Islamabad office, alongside the engineers and designers building the product.

Can I use AI to prepare my application?

Yes, and we may ask you how. We build AI products, so we'd expect you to.

Not a fit if…

  • You want the role defined before you act on it
  • You want to be told what to build
  • You think product management means writing tickets

None of these sound like you? Then we'd like to hear from you.
