Built for the hardest agentic work

An intelligent model with reasoning that scales all the way up.

Deep reasoning that scales

Deep reasoning that scales

Sustains multistep analysis across long problem chains, converting extra thinking effort into reliably better answers, all the way up to the max setting.

Long-horizon agentic coding

Long-horizon agentic coding

Stays on task through extended tool-use loops, shipping multi-file features and larger refactors without leaving stubs or placeholders behind.

Verifies its own work

Verifies its own work

Checks branches, tests, and edge cases before handing work back, without being told to. A behavior change from earlier Opus models.

Frontier vision

Frontier vision

Reads charts, documents, and diagrams, and can replicate UI and frontend visuals directly from screenshots.

What Opus 5 Does For You

With a model as powerful and efficient as Opus 5, you can wrap up all your work in half the time and cost.

From Task to Finished Feature

From Task to Finished Feature

Hand off a task and get back a finished feature. Opus 5 writes its own tooling when the obvious approach falls short, and traces bugs back to their real root cause instead. You spend less time reviewing and more time shipping.

A Second Set of Eyes on Every Pixel

A Second Set of Eyes on Every Pixel

Point Opus 5 at a chart, a document, or your own UI and it reads it accurately, then checks its own output. It opens the pages it builds in a browser at desktop and phone widths, catching layout bugs before you'd find them in QA.

Won't Just Tell You What You Want to Hear

Won't Just Tell You What You Want to Hear

Opus 5 pushes back when your plan has a real flaw instead of quietly going along with it. When it disagrees, it tells you exactly why and proposes a better path forward. You get a built-in second opinion, not just an assistant that agrees.

Everything Claude Opus 5 Brings

Across reasoning, coding, and enterprise work, Opus 5 raises the bar in ways that add up fast.

Deeper Reasoning

A full effort ladder from low to max converts extra thinking into reliably better answers, more so than any earlier Opus model.

Massive Context

Consistent instruction-following, tool use, and reasoning across the full 1M-token window, as both the default and the maximum.

Built-In Thinking

Decides when and how much to think on each turn; the effort setting is now the main lever for reasoning depth.

Self Verification

Checks branches, tests, and edge cases before handing work back, without needing to be told to verify.

Agent Teams

Runs teams of subagents with effective writer-verifier patterns and few cases of agents overwriting each other's work.

Office Ready

Generates and edits complex multi-sheet spreadsheets and produces well-structured slide decks.

Bug Detection

Surfaces real bugs at a high rate per pass with few false positives, even at lower effort levels.

Flexible Tooling

Add or remove tools between turns of a conversation without invalidating the prompt cache

Fast Mode

Runs at roughly 2.5x the default speed for time-sensitive workloads

Claude Opus 5 is Anthropic's model for complex agentic coding and enterprise work, released July 24, 2026. It delivers frontier-level reasoning and long-horizon agentic performance at roughly half the cost of Claude Fable 5, Anthropic's most capable model.

Via the Claude API: $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens which unchanged from Opus 4.8. A Fast mode (research preview) runs at roughly 2.5x the speed for $10 / $50 per million tokens. But with Imagine Computer you get access to Opus 5 and multiple other models like Kimi K3Kimi K3 in just $9/month on a yearly plan.

Independent benchmarking from Artificial Analysis ranks Opus 5 #1 on both its Intelligence Index (61) and Agentic Index (55.3), ahead of Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol and it outright beats Fable 5 on Frontier-Bench v0.1 (43.3% vs. 33.7%) and ARC-AGI-3 (roughly 3x the next-best model).

Thinking is now on by default. The model decides when and how much to reason on its own. The effort ladder extends to five levels (low, medium, high, xhigh, max), and disabling thinking is only allowed at high effort or below. Every request runs on the full 1M-token context window; there's no smaller variant.

Anthropic intentionally didn't train Opus 5 on offensive cyber tasks, so it remains behind Claude Mythos 5 on cybersecurity. Particularly at turning a found vulnerability into a working exploit. It's also not the model to reach for if you need the single highest ceiling on capability; that's still Claude Fable 5.
